Reflexology

The history of reflexology goes back thousands of years, at the heart of the ancient civilizations: Chinese, Indian and Egyptian. The oldest documentation, a pictograph showing the use of reflexology dating back 4000 years, has been found in the tomb of an Egyptian physician.

Reflexology is not a massage, but a preventive and therapeutic treatment: its goal is to fortify the immune system and to stimulate the self-healing powers of the body, to maintain or restore, without adverse side-effects, a good balance & therefore, good health.

Reflexology promotes the natural functions of the organism, regulates the hormonal, nervous, immune, digestive and musculoskeletal systems. It helps the body in eliminating toxins, improves the lymphatic and cardiovascular circulation and is very effective in reducing stress. By releasing tensions, reflexology brings an immediate sensation of well-being.

There is an extremely wide range of beneficial effects with reflexology, as it stimulates the patient’s self-healing powers and has a global approach of the body: on the physical, mental and emotional aspects (foundings of Traditional Chinese Medicine).

To name just a few, here are some examples of acute or chronic conditions that reflexology may bring relief from :

Stress, anxiety, nervousness
Insomnia, fatigue
Migraines, Headaches,
Allergies, sinusitis
Muscular pain, neck/shoulder/back pain
Digestive problems
Arthritis, rhumatisms, sciatica
Fluid retention, circulation issues (lymphatic & cardiovascular)
Hormonal imbalances, PMS, menopause
Assisting women in initiating labour & relief, postpartum

How does it work ?

This natural therapy is based on research into the nervous system : it uses the nerve endings located in the feet, hands and ears (there are more than 7200 nerve endings in each foot), which have connections to all parts, organs and glands of the body, through nerve pathways. By applying specific pressure on those points, a stimulation is transmitted to the central nervous system (brain & spinal cord), which transfers this impulse to the corresponding area of the body and promotes its natural functions.

We often forget that our body is an incredible wonder. It has the ability to heal many issues by itself if given the opportunity, that is a time when it is perfectly relaxed, and can “rest and repair”, as in deep sleep.

We know that more than 80% of illnesses are caused by stress. Indeed, we are often too stressed & too busy in our lifestyle to pay attention to our body, and little by little, we exhaust our resources.

During a reflexology treatment, by combining deep relaxation with reflex stimulation, we will give you the best chances to allow your body to recover by itself.

Reflexology is safe for all people of all ages, although the pressure and length of session may vary for babies, the elderly or the ill people.

Important: Reflexologists treat the person as a whole, on the physical, mental and emotional aspects, but do not diagnose, prescribe or treat for specific conditions. Reflexology is an excellent complement to the traditional medicine but doesn’t replace the advice and treatment of your physician.
